Myth Or Fact

Filed under: Uncategorized — Conservative @ 5:48 pm

I was casually reading “The End of the present world” by Fr Charles Arminjon when I came across the following text which seemed quite in general keeping with the investigations of this blog. I am reproducing the text here:

Pg 12

“At the times of the Maccabees, signs were already seen in the sky. For forty days, the whole city of Jerusalem observed men on horseback in the air, clad in gold brocade and armed with lances, like cavalry units. the horses, drawn up in squadrons, charged one another. The men seemed to be armed with javelins and drawn swords; their weapons were made of gold, and their helmets and breastplate were dazzling. The terror-stricken people prayed fervently to God, in order that these omens might turn to their deliverance, and not to their confusion and ruin. 2 Macc 3:22-30

During the siege of Jerusalem, under Titus, the Holy of Holies and the Temple were shaken by mysterious movements; strange noises were heard coming from them, and voices from invisible beings cried out, “Let us depart hence, let us depart hence.” A Grand Rabbi, dumbfounded by these terrifying,  supernatural manifestations, exclaimed, “O Temple, why are you troubled, and why do you frighten yourself?”

I borrowed the following image from a blog post which I haven’t read – – the movie ‘Immortals’ gives me the impression of being a modern day picture based on a mixture of neo-classical pagan myth and Judeo/Christian stories.

To further end this post in modern-day fictitious myth, I shall quote JRR Tolkien – “The Book of lost tales 2 – Turambar and the Foaloke” – …….. but Turambar indeed shall stand beside Fionwe in the Great Wrack, and Melko and his drakes shall curse the sword of Mormakil.'”

Wiki says –

In Greek and Roman mythology, a palladium or palladion was an image of great antiquity on which the safety of a city was said to depend. “Palladium” especially signified the wooden statue (xoanon) of Pallas Athena that Odysseus and Diomedes stole from the citadel of Troy and which was later taken to the future site of Rome by Aeneas. The Roman story is related in Virgil‘s Aeneid and other works.

In English, since circa 1600, the word “palladium” has meant anything believed to provide protection or safety — a safeguard.

Image Above – Nike (Victory) offers an egg to a snake entwined around a column surmounted by the Trojan Palladium. (Marble bas relief, Roman copy of the late 1st Century CE. After a neo-Attic original of the Hellenistic era.) We cannot but note the similarity between this ancient pagan image and modern day images of the Blessed Virgin ‘crushing’ the serpent.

Is properly an image of Pallas Athena, but generally an ancient one, which was kept hidden and secret, and was revered as a pledge of the safety of the town or place where it existed. Among these ancient images of Pallas none is more celebrated than the Trojan Palladium, concerning which there was the following tradition. Athena was brought up by Triton; and his daughter, Pallas, and Athena once were wrestling together for the sake of exercise. Zeus interfered in the struggle, and suddenly held the aegis before the face of Pallas. Pallas, while looking up to Zeus, was wounded by Athena, and died. Athena in her sorrow caused an image of the maiden to be made, round which she hung the aegis, and which she placed by the side of the image of Zeus. Subsequently when Electra, after being dishonoured, fled to this image, Zeus threw it down from Olympus upon the earth. It came down at Troy, where Ilus, who had just been praying to the god for a favourable omen for the building of the city, took it up, and erected a sanctuary to it. According to some, the image was dedicated by Electra, and according to others it was given by Zeus to Dardanus. The image itself is said to have been three cubits in height, its legs close together, and holding in its right hand a spear, and in the left a spindle and a distaff. (Apollod. iii. 12. § 3; Schol. ad Eurip. Orest. 1129; Dionys. i. 69.) This Palladium remained at Troy until Odysseus and Diomedes contrived to carry it away, because the city could not be taken so long as it was in the possession of that sacred treasure. (Conon, Narr. 34; Virg. Aen. ii. 164, &c.) According to some accounts Troy contained two Palladia, one of which was carried off by Odysseus and Diomedes, and the other carried by Aeneas to Italy, or the one taken by the Greeks was a mere imitation, while that which Aeneas brought to Italy was the genuine one. (Dionys. l. c. ; Paus. ii. 23. § 5; Ov. Fast. vi. 421, &c.) But if we look away from this twofold Palladium, which was probably a mere invention to account for its existence in more than one place, several towns both in Greece and Italy claimed the honour of possessing the ancient Trojan Palladium; as for example, Argos (Paus. ii. 23. § 5), and Athens, where it was believed that Diomedes, on his return from Troy, landed on the Attic coast at night, without knowing what country it was. He accordingly began to plunder; but Demophon, who hastened to protect the country, took the Palladium from Diomedes. (Paus. i. 28. § 9.) This Palladium at Athens, however, was different from another image of Pallas there, which was also called Palladium, and stood on the acropolis. (Paus. l. c.) In Italy the cities of Rome, Lavinium. Luceria, and Siris likewise pretended to possess the Trojan Palladium. (Strab. vi. p. 264; Serv. ad Aen. ii. 166, &c.; Plut. Camill. 20; Tac. Ann. xv. 41; Dionys. ii. 66.) Figures reminding us of the description we have of the Trojan Palladium are frequently seen in ancient works of art.

…….it is more probable that Pallas is the same word as pallax, i. e. a virgin or maiden. (Comp. Tzetz. ad Lyc. 355.)

Once the Palladium was taken to Rome the Vestal Virgins were in charge of it….

Ajax the Lesser drags Cassandra from the Palladium. Detail from a Roman fresco in the atrium of the Casa del Menandro (I 10, 4) in Pompeii.

The Palladium was:

 1) a gift of the gods

2) came from the heavens

3) an image of a virgin placed above or trampling a snake

4) protected cities and empires

Likewise, early Christianity was blessed with similar protection through the physical presence of Holy Icons and Relics

It is interesting to note that Emperor Constanine had removed the PALLADIUM from Rome and placed it in Constantinople (Istanbul today) as a clear sign that the political seat of the ancient Roman Empire had moved. Indeed it had moved closer to Jerusalem. He had also carried many Christian sacred relics including the said MAPHORION. Therefore, the ancient tradition of the PALLADIUM (which protected TROY, GREECE and ROME) was kept in the form of sacred images of Our Lady bearing Jesus Christ in her arms.

This blog has described the Blessed Virgin as the Jewish Ark of the Covenant and Solomon’s Temple, however one cannot but notice that time and again similarities also arise between the Virgin of Christianity and ancient pagan goddesses CS Lewis, JR Tolkien and Gilbert Keith Chesterton compared ancient paganism with Christianity and criticised people whose conclusions were that Christianity borrowed heavily from ancient paganism. It is evident that these three writers were right in saying that ancient forms of worship were permitted by Divine Providence as to allow a form of bed rock in the minds of humanity to accept more graciously the revealed truth through the Judeo – Christian Faith. Therefore, if this were the case, all of mankind (pagans as well as Jews) were being prepared for Christianity.

On the E.U. and the Immaculate Conception

150 years later and the Feast of the
Immaculate Conception
Lourdes – The Implications!!
England and Spain

The English historian and member of Parliament, Edward Gibbon (1737-1794) wrote that: “A victorious line of march had been prolonged above a thousand miles from the rock of Gibraltar in Spain to the banks of the Loire in France; the repetition of an equal space would have carried the Saracens to the confines of Poland and the Highlands of Scotland; the Rhine is not more impassable than the Nile or Euphrates, and the Arabian Fleet might have sailed without a naval combat into the mouth of the River Thames. Perhaps the interpretation of the Qur’an would now be taught in the schools of Oxford, and her pulpits might demonstrate to a circumcised people the sanctity and truth of the revelation of Muhammed.”(4) The Moorish Governor of Spain, Abdul Rahman Al-Ghafiqi, crossed the Pyrenees and invaded Loire where he met Charles in battle. In 732, Charles Martel and the Blessed Virgin halted the invading army of the Cordoban Emirate. Known as the Battle of Poitiers or the Battle of Tours, this was a crucial and decisive moment in the development of the European Christian civilization. The outcome secured Christianity in the region and prevented the Islamic takeover of the entire European Continent. Edward Gibbon’s hypothesis was thankfully prevented from turning into reality, however, England today seems threatened in like manner as never before.

October is the month dedicated to Our Lady’s Holy Rosary, within which are celebrated the modern Feast Days of ‘Our Lady of the Holy Rosary’ (October 7), ‘Our Lady’s Maternity’ (October 11), ‘Our Lady of the Pillar’ (October 12) and the last apparition of ‘Our Lady of Fatima’ (October 13). The Battle took place on October 10, 732, in the proximity of Tours and Poitiers in France. Previous to battle, Charles undertook certain preparations, which included the erection of numerous altars for the celebration of the Holy Mass and the supplication of the intercession of Our Lord and his Holy Mother for victory. In defense against the onslaught of the Moorish army, the Franks formed a large square formation. The Cordoban horsemen galloped towards Charles Martel’s forces. As the battle raged, Abdul Rahman Al-Ghafiqi was slain, the Moors left the battlefield a day later, abandoning their tents and allowing the army of Gaul to recapture the loot.
The translation of the Arabic medieval chronicle, Isidore of Beja’s Chronicle, states, “…and in the shock of the battle the men of the North seemed like North a sea that cannot be moved. Firmly they stood, one close to another, forming as it were a bulwark of ice; and with great blows of their swords they hewed down the Arabs. Drawn up in a band around their chief, the people of the Austrasians carried all before them. Their tireless hands drove their swords down to the breasts (of the foe).”(5) The Moorish invasion was directed towards the Church of Saint Martin and the City of Tours, however failed miserably at achieving its objective at founding a Cordoban base. The outcome resulted in 300,000 fallen Moors, as opposed to 1,500  Franks.
The Spanish Crusade
The great medieval epic ‘Chanson de Roland’ has been one of the historical sources supplying information regarding the eventful battles taking place during King Charles’ Spanish Campaign. The ‘History of Charlemagne and Roland,’ otherwise known today as the ‘Pseudo-Turpin,’ was authored by a monk in Galicia (France) during the times of the First Crusade. The intention was to honor Saint James, the holy Apostle of Christ and encourage the pilgrimage to his tomb. Pope Chalixtinus II (1119-1124) declared the ‘History of Charlemagne and Roland’ (Pseudo-Turpin) as reliable and factual and based on true events which transpired in Charles’ day. In our modern times, altering history by discrediting Saint James’ apparitions surely does not bring the blessings and graces God bestowed upon Charles the Great. An Islamic Prince, together with his invading army, caused stiff resistance against Charles’ Crusade. In 732, the Islamists fled to Spain and re-grouped in Aquitaine, France. One group inhabited a fortress situated on a cliff overhanging Lourdes and was referred to as the Castle of Mirambel. In 778, when Charles the Great returned from his Spanish Campaign, he laid siege to this castle. The commander of this garrison was called Mirat, a Jihadist who swore by Mohammed, that he would not surrender to any mortal man. Mirat was notoriously cunning, and the siege was bringing the fortified castle to a desperate situation. One day an eagle carrying a trout from the Gave River flew over the castle walls and dropped by accident the fish. Mirat had the idea of sending a messenger with the trout to Charles, as proof of the inexhaustible rations of the besieged garrison. Charles fell for the trick and was close to raising the siege. Fortunately, the army’s chaplain Bishop of Le Puy recognized the deception and obtained an audience with Mirat. The Bishop of Le Puy was sent as Charles’s emissary and met the Muslim confiding to him his own greatest treasure. The Islamists were at the end of their rations and the bishop saw for himself this fact and inquired about the refusal for surrender. Mirat spoke of his oath and the bishop replied: “Brave prince, you have sworn never to yield to any mortal man. Could you not with honor make your surrender to an immortal Lady? Mary, Queen of Heaven, has her throne at Le Puy, and I am her humble minister there. Would you desire also to serve this Queen and not surrender to men?”(2) The Islamic Commander was thus freed from his oath and received baptism at Le Puy under the name of ‘Lorus’ or ‘Lorda.’ He was then knighted by Charles and received the command of the Castle of Mirambel. Lourdes is derived from the name Lorus. One thousand years later this town witnessed the apparition of the Blessed Virgin to Saint Bernadette. Therefore, apart from Fatima, also does Lourdes relate to the conversion of Islamic Jihadists and Muslims to the knowledge of Redemption from the two falls.
Lourdes and Our Lady of Le Puy, what do these devotions and pilgrimage points represent for Spain, France and England ?

An article appearing in CatholicLife magazine (October 2007) titled “Our Lady of Westminster and the ‘Dowry of Mary,’” written by Christine Waters describes how the English tradition regarding ‘Our Lady’s Dowry’ beginning with King Edward the Confessor, during those times when the Holy House of Walsingham and Westminster Abbey were established, has a historical basis. According to the article’s author ‘Our Lady of the Pew’ or ‘Puy’ was venerated by King Edward III and his family in a building overlooking the Thames River called the Chapel of St. Stephen. A richly adorned statue of Our Lady of the Pew was present during King Edwards’s times (1355) and during King Henry III’s rule (1250), when devotion to Our Lady of the Pew in Westminster Palace was referred to as “the chapel in the King’s garden.” A second statue was donated by Countess Marie de St Paul in the 1370s and placed in the Benedictine Abbey of Westminster. This second statue became an object of veneration by the general public and it seems that this devotion might have surpassed Walsingham. The author cleverly points out the following, that the year 1380 was crucial for defining the tradition that Our Lady was the seat of power and authority in England. The English tradition of England as being Our Lady’s Dowry (up to the year 1380) must be quickly mentioned in point form. First on the list is the Glastonbury details of the wattle chapel dedicated to Our Lady and of Joseph of Arimathea’s (Our Lady’s uncle) burying place, secondly England was the place where the Christian Emperor Constantine was first acclaimed Augustus, thirdly the details regarding the devotion of King Arthur or Arturus to Our Lady, later followed King Alfred the Great’s victory at Ethandune by way of Our Lady’s intercession and lastly, William the Conqueror’s Norman crusade to England bearing a Papal banner of Our Lady given to him by the Roman Pontiff himself, however more must be added to these events. During William the Conqueror’s time there exists a story relating to the Immaculate Conception which is described in Chapter 19. There also exists the obvious element of St George as being Our Lady’s Knight battling the Dragon/Devil, (representing England battling the might of ancient Rome) however, the influence of the French Kings’ devotions to Our Lady and this influence on England should also be taken into consideration. Christine Waters argues that the devotion of Our Lady of the Pew was greatly established and venerated by both the Royal Family and the English populace by the year 1380.

Interestingly the word ‘Pew’ is associated with the French word ‘Puissant’ or ‘Powerful’ and also associated with the French Shrine of Our Lady of Le Puy in Auvergne. This title also means ‘Virgin of Strong Support’ or ‘Virgo Potens.’

Therefore, by 1380 Our Lady’s power at protecting and delivering the English Nation was evident by the devotion to Our Lady of the Pew at Westminster: “…the ancient seat of government and authority.” However, the public dedication of England to Our Lady occurred in 1381 when after Mass and praying before the statue of Our Lady of the Pew, King Richard II successfully quelled a rebel army referred to as the Peasant’s Revolt. He carried St George’s banner and following his victory as a votive offering, placed this banner at the feet of the statue at Westminster. He publically placed his Kingdom under Our Lady’s protection. These victories and events should be seriously taken into consideration by the frequenters of 60 Great Queen Street London, as Our Lady is the true protector of England unlike her nemesis the Dragon/Devil, the Grand Architect of the Universe. But alas, the battle between the followers of Our Lady and of her enemy raged and during the Masonically enlightened years of the French Revolution a painting which was commissioned by King Richard II, of himself and his Queen presenting England to Our Lady which bore the inscription “Dos tua Virgo pia haec est” or “This is your dowry, pious Virgin” was destroyed at the English College in Rome in the year 1798.

On February 10, 1399, the Archbishop of Canterbury issued a mandate which fulfilled the wish of King Richard II to place the Kingdom under her protection. The mandate read as follows, “The contemplation of the great mystery of the Incarnation has brought all Christian nations to venerate her from whom came the beginnings of redemption. But we, as the humble servents of her inheritance, and liegemen of her especial dower (as we are approved by common parlance) ought to excel all others in the favour of our praises and devotion to her.”(5) Evidently this was an early form of consecration of England to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The most amazing details regarding these events are the facts that Our Lady chose England during William the Conqueror’s times to strengthen the devotion to her Immaculate Conception in the west and even more striking the fact that the date given above regarding the ‘consecration’ of England to Our Lady (February 10) is the eve of the Catholic Feast-day dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, where in our modern times Our Lady publically declared herself as being the Immaculate Conception!

In ‘Ipotesi su Maria’ the eminent journalist and Catholic writer Mr. Vittorio Messori, on pages 160-167, goes further in explaining the connection of Lourdes with France and European protection and other..
Mr Messori first explains how the clothing of Our Lady, that is a white dress or habit bith blue and silver colours represent ancient Judaic clothing, he interprets this as to indicate that Our Lady desires to reveal that she is a daughter of Zion (interestingly Pope Benedict dedicates a book on Our Lady as being the Daughter of Zion) this however does not make her a Zionist for the Talmud describes her as being a harlot – the blasphemy of blasphemies!
Anyway, Mr Vittorio Messori describes how the entire French region of ancient Bigorre was by virtue of the conversion of Mirat to Lorus in 732 consecrated to Our Lady. An ancient tradition of carrying a spear/javelin with grass tied to it, maybe signifying the fact that Our Lady of Le Puy had released Mirat from his Islamic oath, was still carried out till the twentieth century. Following Lorus in his steps, the French King performed this tradition and pilgrimage which the converted Muslim had begun. The French King gave the land to Our Lady of Le Puy whom the French Kings now referred to as the Countess of the region of Bigorre. The tradition was kept for many centuries since 732 AD.
Following the work of the secret fraternal societies dedicated to Lucifer, the French Revolution occured and the rights of the land or region of Bigorre were to be handed from the French Crown to the Republic in 1859. However, Our Lady appeared in 1858 at Lourdes reclaiming the land for herself.
The following reasoned deductions can be thus made:-
1) The origins of the manifestation of Our Lady of the Puy’s power protecting France and England began in the above mentioned manner and the devotion to Our Lady of Le Puy in France and England was a natural reaction to her maternal protection.
2) It is a story of Muslim conversion and the protection of Christianity from aggressive Islam and the secret fraternal societies. This though is obvious especially when considering the direct influence of the Masonic authorities at resisting and harassing Bernardette. Therefore, Lourdes symbolises a conversion of heretics.
3) Lourdes symbolises the protection of all Europe and the European Union.
4) Lourdes – the healing waters represent the healing of the body and soul and the Christening waters of the Jordan River. The Baptisimal place for humanity, for all mankind.
5) Lourdes and Fatima have similar meanings.
6) The grafting back of Judaism in the ‘Church of Christ’ – Romans 11.
7) Due to point number 2 and 6 the condemnation of a possible Judaic Imposter Messiah.
The Immaculate Conception – that is – the fact that Our Lady was kept from Original Sin – that first sin offered by the serpent, which promises the Knowledge of good and evil, which promises a transformation into gods, a separation from God – was OPPOSED publically by Our Lady at Lourdes “I am the Immaculate Conception” – we must reject all gods but the God of Christianity.
Lourdes is the modern day spiritual representation of the Jordan River – the Baptisimal waters where Saint John the Baptist symbolically baptised the Son of God and God Himself, Jesus Christ.

‘Wonder-working’ icon comes to St. George Serbian church

An icon, depicting the Virgin Mary, and believed to possess healing powers, rolled into St. George Serbian Orthodox Church parking lot Thursday in a rented Ford Taurus.

Subdeacons Nathaniel and Dimitri, dressed in black robes, climbed out. A throng of local church leaders greeted them at the bottom of the church’s front steps.

The third and final man out — Reader Nectarios — opened a blue velvet satchel fastened around his neck. He gingerly slid the  “Wonderworking Hawaiian Iveron,” encased in a glass-faced picture frame, out of the bag.

He placed it in the hands of the local clergy, who proceeded to march it up the steps.

Inside, 300 men, women and children waited for a glimpse of the Iveron, an image of Mary holding the Christ child.

Some just wanted a look. Others came to venerate, or pay their respects to the icon, which “weeps” myrrh, an oil-like substance, and emanates an incessant aroma of roses.

A woman made the sign of the cross as it passed in front of her. The early afternoon sun glistened off the frame as clergy members carried it through double-doors into the church.

Squeezed tightly into pews, standing side-by-side, and even snaking out the front door, Christians of all kinds sang hymns and prayed.

They included Serbian Orthodox who call the church home, a woman from Greensburg United Methodist, Roman Catholics from churches such as Annunciation Church in Akron, Holy Family in Stow and Immaculate Heart of Mary in Cuyahoga Falls.

They included Vicky Bhe of Canal Fulton, a native of Indonesia. She is 75 and has visited such religious meccas as Rome and Guadulupe since becoming Roman Catholic in her early 30s.

“When the mother of God comes, it attracts all faiths,” said Subdeacon Nathaniel. He’s in the midst of a three-week tour, driving the icon to locations in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

It’s only during tours like these that Nectarios allows the Iveron out of his sight.

He takes it into restaurants when he eats. It’s with him at work. It has remained close by since June 2008, when the archbishop of western America named him guardian of the icon and told him to share it.

The icon has a unique, albeit short history.

Made by a Russian church supply company, it’s a replica of the Montreal Iveron icon, now kept in Greece. A parish rector in Hawaii gave the replica icon to Nectarios as a gift in 2007. Nectarios soon noticed a fragrance and myrrh. A priest once dried it over and over, but the myrrh returned.

“Slick, but not sticky,” Nectarios described the oily substance.

Nectarios said he witnessed a blind altar boy in Tucson, Ariz., regain his sight after kissing the icon.

He credits it with other miracles, including curing cancer in one sister, and healing the ills of another.

After the service, the Very Rev. Dragan Filipovic invited everyone to venerate the icon at an altar in the middle of the church. One at a time, believers bowed before, kneeled in front of and kissed it.

Filipovic rubbed a myrrh-soaked cotton ball in the sign of the cross on each forehead.

Vicky Bhe approached.

A pair of medallions, Our Lady of Guadulupe and the Madonna, dangled from her necklace against her purple sweater. She wasn’t looking for a miracle. She just wanted to say “thank you.”

“My family; my friends; continue to look after them,” she thought to herself, as she kissed the Iveron.

Venice Salute Festival: in praise of Our Lady of Health

The whole church of the Salute was built just for this day each year

A phalanx of Venetians advanced over the bridge of boats, their red, blue and black umbrellas raised against a passing shower. From the far side of the Grand Canal they looked like a testudo, the ancient Roman military formation for storming a gateway under a shelter of shields.

The good-natured jostling crowd was set on one target – to visit the monumental domed church of the Salute on its great annual feast on November 21. It was for this that the temporary bridge had been set up, as it has been each year since 1631, when Venice was freed from a plague.

Read reviews of Venice’s best hotels – and book them at the lowest prices

The bridge is quite a structure, spanning 264ft from the side of the Gritti Place Hotel over the Grand Canal to a narrow lane beside the medieval church of San Gregorio. It stays in place for three days, resting on eight barges tethered to great stakes with pointed tops like giant sharpened pencils. It arches up so that, under the middle, the vaporetti, the chugging water buses, can just squeeze through. They’re quite exciting to watch from above, for they seem to approach at fearless speed, hitting the gap like a train entering a tunnel.

Everything is turned upside down on the feast of the Madonna della Salute. The Venetians, not conspicuously pious in their daily demeanour, all make a point of a visit. “You don’t have to be a believer,” said a man in a smart overcoat and Wellingtons near St Mark’s. “It’s a thing for everyone in Venice.”

And so it really seems. An English or a German voice is scarcely heard in the throng. “Que bella la campana,” a woman in fur says to her companion as the bell rings echoing in the narrow lane, where, for a moment, there is an impasse as umbrellas lock together at a tiny crossroads. Then suddenly, over a little wooden footbridge, the world opens out into the wide fondamento, the quayside beside the vast baroque masterpiece by Baldassare Longhena.

Booths nailed together from canvas and wood sell 2ft-long candles at €5 (£4.50) apiece – not bad value in this city where simply existing sometimes feels like keeping a taxi waiting with the meter running. From the waterside it is possible to see through the velvet-draped open doorway right into the candlelit church and as far as the icon of the Madonna di San Tito, which stands above the high altar.

The whole church of the Salute – its vast stone volutes absurdly like Danish pastries buttressing the rotunda beset by saintly statues, with its Corinthian columns, twin domes, and half-dozen side chapels – was built just for this day each year. It was built for a grand procession and an ant-stream of pilgrims.

At the top of the 16 wide steps to the grand entrance you can smell the wax, hot wax. Hundreds of candles in ranks leaning inwards, planted on metal stands the size of double beds, suck up air in a blaze of convection. A sort of verger – a black man in blue overalls speckled with wax – accepts candles from pilgrims and puts them in place to burn away.

The chequered floor of the round church is invisible beneath a press of pilgrims. On this day, chosen because it is the feast of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary, Mass is said every hour on the hour from six in the morning until eight at night. The priest goes about his business undeterred by the constant flow of people past the altar, to say their prayers and make token offerings behind it, in a niche beneath the icon, which is covered with a festal silver mounting so that only the solemn, thoughtful face of the Mother and the round face of the Child look out over the restless crowd.

I would say that only those capable of imperturbable concentration could pay undistracted attention to the liturgy on a day like this. Perhaps it is the very act of coming here that is the point. The Gazzettino, the regional newspaper, was full of warnings of disaster because of the forecast high tides: the acqua alta, it predicted, would prevent the No 2 vaporetto from getting under the bridge by the railway station and would leave pedestrians wallowing in floodwater.

In the event, the high tide did not prevent the bishop from arriving for the High Mass attended by the civic authorities (many of them, no doubt, as unbelieving as the beast of the field, but determined to be there).

When the Salute was built, the fear was not flood but plague. Bubonic plague had raged through the putrid summer of 1629. By April 1630, the Patriarch of Venice declared that devotions should be held in six churches dedicated to the Virgin Mary, imploring her intercession to halt the deadly epidemic. In the autumn of that year, the worldly wise Venetian senate, for all its pomp and Machiavellian craft, resolved to appeal to heavenly aid. A church, it decided, should be built and dedicated to Santa Maria della Salute, Our Lady of Health. The senate declared that a procession would be held to the church annually. And so it was.

The site for the new church was a commanding one, at the mouth of the Grand Canal. It is impossible now to picture Venice without the high dome of the Salute, as every great painter of the city from Canaletto to Turner has depicted it. The church formed a leitmotif in the pictures that featured in the recent exhibition at the National Gallery in London.

But how do you build a vast, heavy stone edifice in a lagoon of shifting silt? The answer lies in the substratum of Venice, firm clay beneath the mud. Palaces and churches rest on wooden piles driven into the clay. For the Salute, 1,156,657 long stakes were banged into place. It was an astonishing feat that was finished within two years of the commission being made.

Even before the stone church began to rise, the Venetian authorities began to fulfil their promise. The first procession, to lay the foundation stone, on April 1 1631, brought one of the city’s most treasured possessions to the site. This was the icon known as the Madonna Nikopeia.

This icon of the Virgin Mary holding the child Jesus was said, in those days, to have been painted by St Luke himself. Certainly it had come from Constantinople, with other treasures plundered in the terrible conquest of 1204, led by the ferocious nonagenarian Doge Enrico Dandolo. The name Nikopeia means “Worker of Victories”. Had not the Venetians triumphed over the Turks in the sea battle of Lepanto in 1571? Now they wanted a heavenly victory over the plague.

More charming and approachable than the Madonna di San Tito, the Madonna Nikopeia today resides in the chapel of the north transept of St Mark’s, where Mass is said quietly every morning while the gum-chewing crocodiles of tourists mill around their circuit of the basilica. The icon is framed in ancient enamels, but the jewelled plates of precious metal that once masked the figures have been removed, revealing the Virgin’s simple mantle of deep blue, marked with four small crosses in gold leaf.

For the first procession to the Salute, this icon was carried from the high altar of St Mark’s by four priests while the choir (then under the direction of Claudio Monteverdi) sang a litany. The outdoor route was marked by canopies of white cloth on tall stakes, with periodic triumphal arches, past the 10th-century church of San Moise (not yet rebuilt as the Baroque drawing-room it now resembles), past the old Giustinian palazzo and across a bridge of boats. A painting by the 17th-century artist Luca Carlevaris shows what this would have been like – a wooden walkway resting on wooden barges, with the same red fabric wrappings round the handrail that are used today.

At the site of the Salute that day in 1631, the Venetians, with all the resourceful ingenuity of a maritime power, had run up a temporary wooden church large enough to shelter the solemn procession of clergy and state officials, and the Patriarch and his entourage, who were waiting for them. There was in those days a sharp rivalry between the Patriarch, whose cathedral of St Peter’s lay eastwards beyond the Arsenale, and the authorities of St Mark’s, which was still technically, for all its grandeur, no more than the chapel of the Doge’s palace.

There, among the painted columns of the wooden church, the icon of the Madonna Nikopeia was placed by the altar, the foundation stone was blessed and the Doge and Signoria knelt as a solemn High Mass was sung. It did the trick. On November 21 1631, the patronal day of the Salute, Venice was officially proclaimed to have been delivered from the plague.

The church of the Salute remains perfectly sited halfway between St Mark’s and Palladio’s church of the Redentore on the far island of the Giudecca. That, too, was built as the consequence of a plague, in the 1570s, when a quarter or more of the Venetian population perished.

So, once a year, the Salute can be viewed from a new angle. Wait until the crowds have subsided, and walk across the bridge of boats by night. That is the way to see it, when the tourists have gone and you and your beloved saunter back to the hotel from a quiet dinner upstairs at Quadri’s in St Mark’s Square, where a few hours earlier they had been mopping out the morning floods from the terrazzo of the ground-floor coffee shop.

The sad Africans in the street hawk the useless toy of the moment – last year a luminescent projectile that parachutes back down to earth – but there are no cars, no fear of muggers, no last train to catch. The moon rises above the basin of St Mark’s, where the water seems like lapped glass, and, between the moon and the dome of the Salute, Venus burns with a cold fierceness.

  • Christopher Howse travelled with Citalia (0844 4151956;, which offers three nights’ b & b in November in a premium deluxe room at the five-star Hotel Danieli from £459 per person, based on two sharing, with return flight on British Airways from Gatwick.
  • Other hotels are available, such as the four-star Bonvechiati, from £249, also for three nights with flights. Prices do not include transport to and from the airport, which is quickest and cheapest by bus at €3 (£2.70) each, but more atmospheric by water taxi (€100/£90 per taxi).

Our Lady of Hostyn

Filed under: Uncategorized — Conservative @ 10:47 pm

Normally when you see an image of the Virgin Mary flanked by lightning bolts, it is presented to show us her infinite intercession with her Son to hold back some Divine Justice for the sins of man, the wrath of God. In a minor basilica, the Church of the Assumption, nestled on a hill barely 200 feet high in the middle of Europe, there is an exception. In this image, she holds the child Jesus, and the fiery lightning pouring forth from His hand is being directed by her.

In the southeast corner of the Czech Republic which makes up today’s Moravia, the Carpathians fade from mountains into hills and the last hill (of any account) is known by the name of Hostyn. Because of its location, this territory has been important, worth holding on to; signs of civilization have been found dating back two thousand years before the Age of Christ. It’s name literally means “trader castle” and probably stems from a fortress built there by the Celts in 200 BC. Story has it that the residents there traded in their pagan gods when Saint Cyril (at the time still known as Constantine) arrived and built a cave chapel marked with a painting of the Holy Virgin.

It’s always been a crossroads, Hostyn, a place where history happened. In June of the year 1241, it so happened that it was in the path of Mongolian invaders – the Tatars. Having already devastated Russia and Slovakia and Poland, the hordes’ advance towards the treasures of Bohemia went straight through Hostyn.
With the armies of King Wenceslaus occupied in the north, the great “Moravian Open” was left to its own defense. City after city fell to the hordes. Those with forewarning and quick feet escaped to live in the forests while the Mongols raped, slaughtered, and burned what was left. The villagers who lived near Hostyn at least had the ancient walls to hide behind. It wasn’t long though before they began to suffer. Hunger and sickness set in as the siege dragged on for weeks. With no natural supply of water, thirst drove them to the brink of despair.
In a final plea for help, they called upon the Mother of God to deliver them.
Suddenly, a roll of thunder echoed through the hills. The sky grew dark and crackled with electricity. When the first drops of rain began to fall, the besieged Moravians ran to gather buckets. They weren’t necessary. In a rocky clearing, the ground opened and a fountain of water spouted forth. The people slaked their thirst and sang praises in honor of the Virgin Mary who had answered their prayers.
Outside the walls, the Tatar camp was in chaos. Bolts of lightning knocked men from their horses and tents were bursting into flames. The very ground beneath their feet burned like coals. Terrified and beaten, the invaders fled, never to turn westward again in their lust for war.
After the miraculous victory, the residents erected a massive stone statue of the Blessed Mother. Hostyn became holy ground, a place of pilgrimage that continued even during the iconoclasm of the Calvinists three hundred years later when ownership of the lands fell into the hands of a national traitor and the original statue and shrines were destroyed.
The love of the people of Moravia for the Holy Virgin proved too strong though for the false faith imposed upon them and like every other occupier, the Calvinists disappeared too. As did the Austrians. And the Hungarians. And the Germans. And the Russians… Churches and shrines were rebuilt, each time grander and more numerous than before, all in honor of their divine protectress, the Victorious Guardian of Moravia.

I know far more about my Polish half than I do my Slovakian one, but I like to imagine that my relatives of the distant past took part in this miracle at Hostyn. I’m positive at least that they venerated our Holy Mother under the protection of her holy and miraculous mantle. I’m positive because I know that my father did. He was at the 1981 dedication of the “Czech” Shrine in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC – the Shrine that was dedicated by name to Our Lady of Hostyn.

The Saints

During his daily routine the Padre was known for praying (at least) nine (9) ‘Glory Be’s, to invoke the protection of God through the intercession of Saint Michael the Archangel.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host –
by the Divine Power of God –
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Relics, Knights and Constellations

* THE STAR OF BETHLEHEM – an in depth study on CONSTELLATIONS and STARS as mentioned in the holy texts of the Bible  –

The trigger for writing this post was initiated by a documentary/show on RAI 2 – the Italian TV channel. The program was a well prepared visual dossier dealing with the topic of the Knight Templars, highlighting their association with Medieval Jerusalem and the recent earthquake-wrecked town of Aquila, Italy’Aquila .

The documentary presenter explained how L’Aquila’s geographical topography is similar to that of Jeruslem City, the Italian town’s construction was adjusted as to mimic Jerusalem’s landmarks. A detailed life-history of Pope Celestine V was examined and interesting points emerged such as the fact that the once secluded Benedictine hermit

( ) known as Pietro da Morrone (a Saint of the RCC) travelled all the way to Spain for the specific mission of saving his order from some impending doom. Pietro da Morrone was interrupted on his way back by a peculiar fellow, a member of the Knights Templar.

For a better understand on who the Knigthts Templar were (at least as regards to their original mission) please visit:-

The RAI 2 presenter went on –  the Templar convinced the future Pope Celestine V to sojourn with the Order for a month or two, the hermit accepted. Understandably, the mission of the Templars was explained well to the hermit who quickly grasped the significance of the original charge of this Order. During their 200 year stay in Outremer the Templars (maybe alongside the Hospitallier Order and the Teutonic Order) were busy digging around the ruins of the former second temple of Jerusalem in the hope of discovering artifacts belonging to Solomon’s Temple, which was the first. It is very hard to understand what, if any, finds these military orders found at Solomon’s Temple site. This House of God was first destroyed by the Babylonians and later (when rebuilt) the second Temple was gutted by Titus, the Roman Caesar. To note though that many relics were indeed saved from this region by St Helen in 300 – 400 AD.

Solomon’s Temple – the first Temple of Adonai ever built, the blue-print of future Cathedrals. This Temple had two pillars at the entrance which were named Boaz and Joachim, the ancestors of King David. The image of two pillars joined with a rainbow occurs time and again in the bible. This symbol was later adopted by Christianity and Freemasonry alike. The Old Testament describes clearly how the House of God was filled with cloud during certain Jewish feast days. This cloud was not incense but is understood as being God Himself who dwelled within.

* Interestingly, the destruction of the second Temple was completed by Titus in 70 AD, exactly on September 8 – feast commemorating Our Lady’s Nativity (the birth of the living Ark and mother of God). A structure which was not destroyed and was left standing in Jerusalem was a Christian site later referred to as the Church of St Mary of Zion -

The alleged relics recovered by the Templars are the following:-

The Holy Grail – cup of Jesus Christ’s last supper – this is very unlikely as the original one (or part) is found in Valencia, Spain and was taken there during St Lawrence’s days. This myth also initiated the absurd, ludicrous and blasphemous tale concocted by the creators of revolution, the Freemasons themselves, that whoever drinks from this cup is awarded eternal life on Earth. This was an absurd idea also investigated by Hitler’s paranormal police, who amongst other things held dear the spear of Destiny, thought to be the spear of Longinus which pierced Christ’s heart upon the Cross.

Spear of Destiny as confiscated from the Vienna Museum by a section of the Hitler’s SS based at the Wewelsburg Schloss in Westphalia. However, this is thought to be the spear of St Maurice which might have been Longinus spear but was found to be a Roman standard tip and is not part of the Longinus spear in Rome.

Saint Longinus, St Peter’s Basilica, Rome, Italy.

Longinus Spear is encased within one of the columns surrounding the altar at St Peter’s Basilica and whoever watched “Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark” would view in popular culture strange absurd ideas similar to Templar and Nazi paranormal ideology. The Freemasons also concocted the idea that another secret society – the Rosicrucians – are the descendants of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalen – just another blasphemy!

Indiana Jones’ Last Supper Cup

Holy Grail of Valencia, Spain – saved by St Lawrence and his Spanish assistant.

The Ark of the Covenant – (the first or the second) – one of which was hidden by the Jews previous to the Babylonian invasion – from the point of view of the religious, this artifact doesn’t matter that much, but from an archaeological perspective (and historical) it would be great to find one. If we were to read Revelation and understand the original meaning regarding the Ark of the Covenant (which contained Aaron’s Staff, Manna, and the tablets of the Laws of Moses) we would conclude that this ‘box’ represents the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ who carried Him for 9 months. The manna, the priestly staff and the law are in fact representations of Jesus Christ Himself, we could start to appreciate the fact that this object, aka this box, is worthless. The incredible power of antiquity, victory in war and death to whoever touches it, belongs to the Blessed Virgin and her Son Jesus Christ, to God Himself.

Ark of the Covenant replica

The Blessed Virgin

The Holy Eucharist – Jesus Christ – the manna from Heaven which gives eternal life.

Dear Jews it is just a gilded box. I’ll however give you something worthwhile to contemplate about. As in modern times the Jewish race has intermingled with the many other people’s around the world,  do you not also think about the fact that many original Jews who  (before the great mix) converted to Christianity in the first century or two AD, are still the original forefathers of many Christians living in Christian Nations (or what is left of once Christian Nations)? Yes indeed many people who do not live in Israel today are in fact descendents of Jews. This would also include descendent’s living in Islamic North Africa and many Americans and Australians.

Anyway, the Templars were aided by Pope Celestine V who abdicated from his throne and when he died was buried at the Basilica di Collemagio in Aquila – here the RAI presenter nudges at the interrogative questions whether the basilica itself was built with Templar treasure found beneath Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem. The Italian presenter also queries whether King Solomon’s relics are somehow hidden in this Italian basilica i.e. Solomon’s bones beneath Pope Celestine’s tomb ?

Well King David’s remains are known of being buried in Israel apparently in Bethlehem. The topic of relics is indeed very old. St. Catherine Emmerich described how Patriarch Joseph carried relics of Adam, the first man, tied around his belt. She also wrote that Adam’s skull was in a cave at Golgotha just beneath Jesus Christ’s Cross. Relics contain a holy power aka the Holy Spirit.

Golgotha – the place of the skull (Adam’s skull)

When speaking about power we are always understanding that it is God Himself, the One who the Templars would later reject for Satan. So the Templars became architects, adventurers, engineers and together with the masons, who would later become the Freemasons, built beautiful Cathedrals. What happened ? How did the fall occur ? It simply did. The Templars discovered the US circa 100 years before Colombus, however they weren’t the first. Earlier still there was Eric the Red, the Viking (and other North men) and surprise of surprises the Libyans had discovered the US (North American Indian DNA is similar to Libyan), the Greeks from Thera (Santorini) also colonised North America.

The RAI presenter went on – At Oak Island (Canada) the Templars dug a well, which allegedly holds Templar treasure retrieved from Solomon’s Temple, and in Iceland the Templars hid some more of it. LOL… The alleged treasure belonging to King Solomon, (which one could see how popular culture expounds – watch the movie National Treasure starring Nicholas Cage and read Dan Brown’s books) could have originated from a myth involving King Solomon’s mines. His father King David had copper mines found to the South of Israel, maybe Solomon had a gold mine ? who knows whether this idea is just as myth as El Dorado the City of Gold or the alleged modern day idea that gold bullion is found at Fort Knox – just kidding!!

King David wrote about God’s Loving Kindness and Mercy, best explained today by Sister Faustina’s Divine Mercy, while King Solomon (when still in his right senses) prayed to be capable to distinguish between good and evil, which God granted together with wisdom. This wisdom wasn’t the wisdom belonging to this world, not a wisdom of money and profit. I can see that the Jews association with money could have started with this distorted idea that being wise means being financially crafty. As King Solomon ceased to distinguish between good and evil  (marrying heathen wives, and ‘walking’ with their gods) he must have become quite a mess. Surely the Templars followed in his same footsteps both in his glory and his fall!!

Now a word regarding constellations.

The Templars who were originally dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, built great Cathedrals in France, such as the Chartres Cathedral which holds her holy veil  –

Chartres Cathedral

The Maphorion of the Hodegitria – Our Lady’s Holy Veil at Chartres.

The history of the Holy-Veil at Chartres –

The apparent cluster of Northern French Cathedrals form the Blessed Virgin’s celestial constellation (Virgo) – albeit the fact that her North Star, Polaris lies in Ursa Minor.

Virgo, Ursa Minor, Polaris, Vega, Orion, Sirius, Thuban and Draco.

The constellation of Virgo and the representation of Virgo in French Cathedral locations.

However, the RAI presenter explained that when the Cathedral in Chartres is joined with the Giza pyramids in a geographical straight line, apparently some Templar castle in Italy appears sitting snugly on this line.

The Giza pyramids built to mimic the celestial belt of Orion. The Nile was the representation of the Milky Way on Earth, while Isis and Osiris, could be born to eternal life from their King and Queen’s chambers and follow the shaft into the heavens and maybe become stars to shine forever. The shafts point towards Thuban in Draco, Orion’s belt and Sirius. The esotericists insist that many secrets and sacred geometry make up this place where initiates can achieve eternal life and astral projection. Little do they know that Jesus Christ promised his faithful followers that on the Resurrection they will shine like stars and receive true eternal life.

This Italian castle has an astronomical connection with Sirius – the dog-star of Canis Major.

Sirius in Canis Major – in relation with Orion’s belt

Sirius through the night sky – Egyptian tomb – and Osiris the night hare

The architecture of this Italian castle resembles greatly the labyrinth designs left by the Templar/Masons in the floors of the French Cathedrals which offer the initiates a rebirth of some sort. These designs represented the human gestation period and as Chartres was previously a pagan site called the ‘womb of the Earth’ these designs offered some form of initiation – what exactly this initiation was, if pagan or Christian, is uncertain !! Definitely however it shows that the Templars had a contradicting idea of female deity vs Blessed Virgin, esoteric eternal life vs. Christian eternal life and a complicated idea of the spiritual struggle between the forces of Adonai and Lucifer.

Chartres’ Labyrinth

Castel del Monte

Castel del Monte – aerial view

Chartres’ Labyrinth

Reims’ Labyrinth

The esoteric idea seems to reveal the initiate’s progress upwards along the supposed spiritual growth indicated by the stage of initiation starting from a triangular labyrinth, then square, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon until the spherical labyrinth in Chartres is reached.

This is esoteric theory which is further exposed by the direct link with the Giza Pyramids and the Castel del Monte which was surely used for ritual initiations into the esoteric mysteries of Lucifer.

In our modern age the New Age movement teaches similar knowledge referred to as sacred geometry, egg, fruit, and tree of life which is non other than the same Egyptian idea of resurrection through magical rituals and astral projection – a far cry from the true Resurrection offered by Jesus Christ the God-Man.

Ursa Minor with the North Star Polaris

The Giza pyramids were constructed as to represent the three stars of the belt of Orion and as the star Sirius is considered by Freemasons as being the dog-star representing the devil or Lucifer, why would Chartres be aligned with both the Blessed Virgin’ celestial symbol (Virgo) and the dog-star Sirius together with the belt of Orion? The Templars seemed to embody a mixture of contradicting topics, these matters represent on Earth (or in architecture) Revelation’s battle between the Virgin’s offspring and the dragon/devil.

Gizah Pyramids

I have earlier written the following in one of my posts:-

“Our Lady was the anti-thesis of both Lucifer’s vanity and the selfish act of our first parents. Vanity, pride, disobedience all were vanquished. It is clear now that ‘Tota Pulchra’ or the ‘all beautiful Virgin’ ignored her beauty (unlike Lucifer) and sealed her love for God which is beauty itself. The Dragon was represented by certain heavenly bodies which symbolised Lucifer’s perfection and status in Creation, Our Lady has eclipsed Lucifer, for as he was represented in Creation by both the Morning Star (Isaiah 14:12) and the North Star (Thuban in the constellation of Draco – in Egyptian times and Sirius – the dog-star today), her beauty surpassed his baneful fall and she became ever more fair. She now is represented by Polaris, the new North Star in Ursa Minor (Our Lady Star of the Sea) and Venus the Morning Star (Litany of Loreto). She has stripped him of his beauty, the perfect cherubim, who was so to speak ‘defrocked’ of his honour before Creation. The Immaculate Conception became ‘Queen of angels and mankind.’ All Hail Star of the Sea, Tota Pulchra!”

The fascinating fact about the North Star is that a north star is not permanently set in that position i.e. the star closest to the North Pole (not the brightest). The North Star changes with changing epochs due to precession. Above we can see how both Vega and later Thuban in Draco (North Star in Egyptian times) Polaris in Ursa Minor (today) and Gamma in Cepheus (THE KING) shall be the next North Star. In 23,000 years Draco will again be the North Star.

Fleming suggests that this struggle is also depicted in the stars. At the North Pole the three constellations, the constellation of Ursa Minor (having Stella Maris, the North Star or Polaris), the constellation of Ursa Major and the third constellation of Draco. Mary being associated with Stella Maris is the central axis as the heavens revolves around her, while she constantly crushes the ‘Dragon’ beneath her heel. The renowned explorer Christopher Columbus, was especially aware of this stellar representation, and adopted a particular signature to mirror the central position of Polaris in the northern sky. Columbus and his crew commended themselves to Our Lady Star of the Sea. Fernando Columbus, the navigator’s son, wrote regarding his father, that the name ‘Christopher Columbus’ was particularly fitting. For it represents both ‘Christopher’ the military saint renowned for having carried the Christ Child across a river and the symbol of ‘the dove’ by way of the surname ‘Columbus.’ Christopher, “…carried the grace of the Holy Spirit to the New World.” Fernando also recalled the figure of the dove, as it left Noah’s ark bearing the olive branch, so was his father bearing the oil of baptism to the American Indios.

POLARIS – The North Star

Cepheus – THE KING – Gamma – the next North Star

The Woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet.

For a proper understanding of the biblical quote “a woman appeared clothed with the sun and the moon was under her feet” (Revelation) please see :-

Morning Star – Venus

The Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe appears upon a moon similarly as in Fatima where she appeared after an unexpected thunderbolt clothed with the sun and with child.

At Fatima Our Lady appeared after an unexpected thunderbolt and lightning startled the children. Shining in a white garment and Rosary in hand, the young lady pleaded with the children to visit the Cova da Iria on the 13th day of the month, from May to October, six consecutive months. After instructing them in the Rosary, Our Lady revealed to them a vision of hell, where unrepentant sinners go.

The ‘Shulamite Woman’ in the Old Testament Book, Song of Songs 6:10, is indeed the ‘Woman’ of Revelation 12.

“Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising,

fair as the moon,

bright as the sun,

as terrible as an army set in full battle array?”

“The world in 1830 was experiencing its first industrial revolution and Charles Darwin was perfecting his theory on the evolution of species through natural selection. In the attempt to deny the existence of the Christian God, the theory was later misused by the worshippers of the ‘god of reason.’ In 1830, in a convent of the Sisters of Charity in Paris, France, twenty-four-year-old novice Catherine Laboure was awakened in the middle of the night, by a five year old child, who invited her to the chapel, for the Blessed Virgin was waiting. As Catherine descended towards the chapel the candles were lit. At midnight she heard the rustle of silk and gazed upwards to behold an apparition of Our Lady in a blaze of white light. The Blessed Mother warned Catherine on the future, she said: “The times are very evil. Sorrows will befall France; the throne will be overturned. The whole world will be plunged into every kind of misery.”(2) A second apparition of Our Lady occurred, the Blessed Virgin was holding an orb topped with a golden cross, she stood upon a white globe and crushed beneath her feet a green serpent with yellow spots. Surrounding the Virgin was an oval frame with the words: ‘O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.’ Our Lady desired that this image would be struck into a medal and on the other side, a large letter ‘M’ surmounted by a cross with two hearts below, one crowned with thorns, the other pierced by a sword. The medal is to be worn around the neck, worn with confidence, Our Lady pledged that whoever wears the medal will receive great and abundant graces.”

“Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a great hailstorm. Ch 12 – A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clohed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was to give birth. Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns of his heads. His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the Earth. The dragon stood infront of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born. She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.”

In the Old Testament Isaiah describes Lucifer as being the morning star who dared challenge God, while the New Testament indicates that Jesus Christ is the morning star. Well Jesus Christ is not the devil, therefore, the morning star is a representation of the glory of creation i.e. the brightest creature. For the first few moments the brightest creature was Lucifer (Isaiah 14:12), at the creation of the Blesed Virgin (following Lucifer’s fall) it was she (Litany of Loreto). Later when Jesus Christ came into the world, the brightest was and still is Him, the God-Man (Revelation 22:16).

How did you come to fall from the heavens, Daystar, (morning star) son of Dawn? How did you come to be thrown to the ground, conqueror of nations?” (Isaiah 14:12)

So we have confirmation of the words of the prophets; and you will be right to pay attention to it as to a lamp for lighting a way through the dark, until the dawn comes and the morning star rises in your minds.” (2 Peter 1:19)

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” (Revelation 22:16)

The Star of Bethlehem

For a proper understanding of the original Star of Bethlehem as studied by ancient Babylonians, as appeared in Bethlehem and the meaning of the conjunction between Saturn, Jupiter in Pisces, please read on:-

A Time of Waiting Unique in World History (VII)

The astrologers’ expectancy

It now seems to be established scientifically that the astrologers from Babylon were also awaiting the birth of the “ruler of the world” from the year 7 B.C. Kepler, one of the fathers of modern astronomy, observed in December 1603 the very bright alignment of Jupiter and Saturn in the constellation of Pisces. With his calculations, he was able to establish that the same phenomenon (which produces an intense and dazzling light in the star-filled heavens) also must have occurred in the year 7 B.C. Then he discovered that an ancient commentary on the Scriptures by the Rabbi Abarbanel recalled that, according to Jewish belief, the Messiah was due to appear precisely at the time when the light from Jupiter and Saturn shone as a single beam in the constellation of Pisces.

Yet hardly any significance was attached to Kepler’s discovery simply because it had not been established with certainty that Jesus had been born before the traditional date, following a mistake by Denys Petau. More than two centuries later, the Danish scholar Munter was to discover and decipher a mediaeval Hebraic commentary on the “seventy seven-day periods” in the Book of Daniel which alluded to the belief referred to by Kepler. In 1902, the Planetary Table was published that is today preserved in Berlin: an Egyptian papyrus that contains the exact movements of the planets between 17 B.C. and 10 A.D. This draws attention to the alignment between Jupiter and Saturn in 7 B.C., visible in its entire splendor across the Mediterranean region.

Lastly, in 1925, a description of Sippar’s Stellar Calendar was published: a baked earth tablet with cuneiform inscriptions from the ancient settlement of Sippar, on the Euphrates, which was the center of an important school of astrology in Babylon. Remarkably, on this “calendar” are marked all of the heavenly movements and alignments of the year 7 B.C. Why was this? Because, according to the Babylonian astrologers, this alignment that can only be observed every 794 years occurred three times in 7 B.C. ? on May 29, October 1 and December 5. And they considered Jupiter to be the planet of the world’s rulers, Saturn as the planet of those who protect Israel and the constellation of Pisces as the sign of the end of time, that is, the beginning of the Messianic era. (…)

Indeed, it is now certain, that between the Tigris and the Euphrates, not only was a Messiah expected that would emerge from Israel, but that amazingly he would be born in an age and at a time that had been predetermined.

Energy or the spirit ?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Conservative @ 5:29 pm

Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism and Islam are  well respected, definitely all are not cults or sects but religions in their own right. The bone of contention arises when modern day New Age borrows from the Eastern mystic religions (Hinduism and Buddhism) and incorporates certain tenets into its own cult and sect organizations. Case in point the energy Chakra system.

The energy, (referred to as prana, chi, life-force, subtle energy) is said to emanate from the energy centres of the body and is also received through these same centres, these centres being the chakras. According to Prof. Madhavan this energy system is intimately related to the electromagnetic field surrounding the human body. In his leaflet which can be seen here he includes Leonardo Da Vinci’s drawings of the human body. I disagree that Leonardo’s work should be somehow linked with the Chakra system. If that was the Profs intention I do not know, however Leonardo being a Catholic and a man who lived 500 years ago did not make use of the Chakra system, nor do any of his writings prove otherwise.

Leonardo who was considered to be both a Catholic and a science genius, discovering the principles of flight and also, designing a helicopter and a mechanized robot 500 years ago, was at odds with the medical academia who, while the genius leaped ahead in his studies of anatomy, were still wallowing in the turbid pool of the medieval belief in the theory of the humor

Allegedly an imbalance in this so called humor produced diseases. I guess that a vague similarity does exist between the theory of the humor and the Chakra system, ( in the latter an imbalance in the energy system is said to cause diseases and illnesses of mind and body).

In this world of globalisation both Western and Eastern medicine have met. An advantage of this mixing was the acquisition in the Western world of the therapy referred to as Acupuncture. This system also employs the mystic Eastern understanding of the balancing out of the Yin-Yan energies, however the acupuncture pins are placed along the meridians and dermatomes on the body and a mechanical stimulation occurs. A scientific basis exists

Unlike Acupuncture, the Chakra therapies seem not to be based on any scientific fundamentals. I am trying to be objective and unbiased, does the Hindu and Buddhic view of the Chakras differ from the New Age therapies, such as Reiki and Universal Energy ? The Chakra system adherents and believers should help Western medical science, if anything, understand the topic of electromagnetic fields encompassing the body. I guess that Prof Madhavan might be chasing this avenue. In the far East it has been known for a long while that if an organ in the human body is sickly, infected, inflamed a change in the electromagnetic field of the body results. A device might be developed which can actually capture and distinguish between the various electromagnetic variations, evidently Kirlian photography is a step into this direction Unfortunately these ideas were also victim of certain twists, in New Age and particularly in Blavatsky’s Theosophy, a man can apparently be trained to have his/her third eye opened to be able to see the aura. The third eye being a Chakra.

So what is the energy involved in the Chakra system ? Is it the aura ? Is it the electromagnetic field around a body ? To note that any field can be generated around a three dimensional system, this would include electrostatic, gravitational, magnetic, biomagnetic and electromagnetic. The latter being further subdivided into many other energy levels (electromagnetic spectrum and if one is unlucky to eat a piece of radio-active sushi in some London restaurant, he would also radiate other particles and energies!!

If the Chakra system makes use of the bio-electromagnetic field surrounding the human body then we can safely say that it is a science, or makes use of physical laws, therefor Reiki and Universal Energy would be akin to a science as much as Acupuncture. Alas, I believe that it is not so. At least the New Age Chakra system does not employ pure scientific principles within its mechanism. As regards to the Buddhic and Hindu Chakra systems I wouldn’t know, however if the systems in question are all identical, then I fear for the latter systems to.

In New Age, the Theosophical branch, considers the aura as surrounding every living thing and inanimate object. In fact buildings are said to have new auras added onto the old ones every 100 years. We are now walking upon a slippery slope overlooking a precipice, for this particular aura is likened with the Christian halo. Error is evident here, the Christian halo is a measure of the spiritual holiness from a Christian perspective, i.e. Love of Adonai and neighbour and steadfast faithfulness to the 10 Commandments and the Catholic Faith and Magisterium. The aura has absolutely nothing to do with this. If the aura is the bio-electromagnetic field which surrounds the body it does not necessarily change with varying degrees of Christian holiness. So one cannot say, “let me have a look at your bio-electromagnetic field, so that I can determine your holiness”. That is quite pathetic!!! But your health – then that is something else!!!

The mind/brain has an electric field which resonates at a frequency of 8 Hz. The nervous system works purely with electric and chemical impulses and each cell has a magnetic and a distinct electric field. In fact modern science has discovered that both an extream low frequency field and a low pulsed magnetic field can influence the cellular electric field causing a cascade of physiological effects. There are two basic ideas which can be developed from this. The first being Nikola Tesla’s theory of adding miniscule amounts of energy, which would result in a huge change especially when the resonant frequency is reached. While the second states that all body cellular chemical reactions and synthesis can be created by way of the modulating external magnetic field which alters the cellular magnetic and electric fields. The first theory was used by Royal Raymond Rife in the 50’s successfully against cancer cells while the second was developed by NASA and CIA scientists to synthesize cellular chemicals by way of the cell’s natural MRNA, RRNA and DNA processes by use of external rotating magnetic fields

“you can induce virtually every effect that a chemical can cause in a living system with aaaa – pause – an external – pause – primarily low frequency magnetic field”

The secret services also invented devices which can modulate a person’s behavior by way of stimulating remotely the nervous system with rotating magnetic fields set at various frequencies which stimulate various responses due to induced chemical changes and induced hormonal secretions. Computer screen and digital TV can also be remotely modulated to induce such changes on the viewer by stimulating the retina which is part of the nervous system. Other science carried out today involves the remote modulation of a person’s behavior by the aid of circuits in the brain. And on a more benign note sleep science and brain/heart electric wave patterns have been studied extensively – ecg/eeg.

When I was a New Age adherent I had my chakras opened 30 % this for me to be able to transmit the New Age energy, which was called universal energy. It was explained to me that this was a science like Acupuncture therapy, that it involved the same energies and that this energy is used for the healing of patients by the New Age version of the laying of hands. If my chakras were opened to 100% I could also transmit the energy mentally and restore the energy balance in the patient from a far off distance. But from all the energies mentioned, which energy is this ? I was silenced easily by the reply that electricity is also a mystery. But this might not be so. Science is attempting to discover the ‘god’ particle with the most expensive hadron collider ever built (at CERN, in the world. The Higgs boson is a theory, so is the relativity theory and its mathematical absurd explanations of the interactions of gravity with light. But my preference is the Aether theory which has been kept in the dark for many a year (probably just to keep the oil industry profitable)

But is the Aether field the energy used by the Chakra System ? Very unlikely.

The Aether explains the absurd way light behaves – particles and wave patterns. The Aether field is made up of very fine energy particles which are everywhere, according to Tesla’s Dynamic Theory of Gravity, gravity is actually an effect created when matter passes through this field. Therefor, the aether carries the electromagnetic wave similarly to the manner how mechanical sound waves propagate. Therefor, in applying Megapulse therapy to a patient a physiotherapist is actually supplying energy in this manner by use of the Aether. The gross effects of the PEME machine are very indiscriminate and specific select energy direction for targeted changes (such as the ones mentioned above – ie. targeting glands for hormonal production e.g. insulin production in pancreas, neurotransmitters in the brain for Parkinsons reversal etc etc) is as yet unachievable with present ‘gross’ physiotherapeutic/radiological/radiotherapy machines.

My Chakras were opened by the secret invocation of the Universal Energy Master. The instructor placed his hands on my head and shoulder and invoked the name of his Master. He was therefor praying !!!

The spirit received was evidently not energy nor the Holy Spirit, who is received through the Catholic sacraments and the Christian/Catholic laying of hands. We Catholics believe that the Holy Spirit descends on us only due to the fact that Jesus Christ (Our Lord and God) has ascended to the Father. This makes us a UNIQUE race. This means that no other religion, has the Holy Spirit descending upon its followers!!!

A faint similarity exists between the Chakra opening and the Christian sacrament of Baptism. In Baptism a mark is placed upon the neophyte, but who knows how many different marks exist in various sect/cult invocations, what comes to mind is the satanist invocation of satan and the masonic invocation of the Great Architect of the Universe. Therefor, not all marks are the same, nor of the same spirit.

Therefor, in my opinion it is an obvious matter that the Chakras in New Age are opened by a spirit and this is no science but a spiritualistic medium.

On another note, Mr Rajan Zed and a Jewish Rabbi are asking Malta to change its laws regarding the term ‘cults’ and the imprisonment sentence for offending the Maltese State’s Religion – the Catholic Faith. While it is true that both the Hindu religion and Judaism are not sects nor cults, we read..

“Malta Criminal Code reportedly makes one liable to imprisonment up to six months for publicly vilifying “Roman Catholic Apostolic Religion”, while committing such act against “any cult tolerated by law” makes one liable to imprisonment only up to three months.

Rajan Zed, acclaimed Hindu statesman; and Rabbi Jonathan B. Freirich, prominent Jewish leader in Nevada and California in USA; in a statement in Nevada, said that it seemed to imply that except Roman Catholic, other religions and denominations including Hinduism and Judaism were just one of the cults in the eyes of Malta……”

The fact that the Catholic Faith is an integral part of the Maltese Constitution doesn’t seem to bother these people who do not comment much regarding the Hindu killings of Christians which occurred in Orissa, India or the Talmudic claim that the Blessed Virgin was a whore.

But anyway, yet on another note I read that both the Shaolin monks and the Indian Kalari fighters are in Malta. The fact that they are performing feats which defy the laws of physics, what certain people might call mind over matter, doesnt seem to be bothering anyone. Could there be any energy / spiritic play in these performances ? Special powers from beyond ?

At the Mediterranean Conference Centre the Knights Hospitaller of St John the Baptist cared for the sick. They exposed the sick to the radiant Holy Eucharist, sprinkled Holy Water and nursed the sick as though the infirm were the Lord Himself, this provided ample help in the Knights’ daily necessities and war activities.

If a Maltese exorcist, trained by Father Gabriele Amorth in Rome, were to sprinkle holy water or exorcist’s salt on the stage before the Shaolin and Kalari performance, would you think that the Easternlings would perform feats of mind over matter and defy the laws of physics ?
