There is an ever increasing number of the fictional novel genre covering the Maltese Great Siege epoch. Each work has its own story, characters, originality and flavour. These are works of fiction possessing various degrees of authentic insight into the alleged time period and the geographical location they belong to. The Order of St John was pushed back from Outremer to Cyprus then to Rhodes and yet again to Malta. They bore with them many holy icons including the one of Philermos. There are posts on magik and witchcraft in this blog exploring the possibility that Roxelana the Ukrainian spouse of the Ottoman emperor cursed the Order on a regular basis.
There is no doubt in my mind that similarly today people who bear the same spirit of this medieval Order (and not necessarily members of this feudalistic medieval chivalrous Order) but ordinary people (like hobbits) who might teach on their history and practice their religion are suffering the same fate.
